Pictures of Art Club from School Year 2011 - 2012
Face painting at different Safford home football games.
The SHS Art Club painted the windows of the Arizona Department of Veterans' Services - Safford Branch in honor of our serving military & veterans. Now, there's a little story behind these images that I would like to share. Navy veteran, Valerie Williams, was working at the branch while we were painting the windows. She spent a lot of time visiting with the students as they were working, explaining the different seals or logos of each military branch. One of the stories that stood out the most to the students was the meaning of the POW*MIA flag. The students had already had their designs planned out, but changed one small detail that impacted their design, & the veteran community the most. The students decided that instead of bring gifts this year, that Santa would bring with him all the prisoners of war (POW) & all those missing in action (MIA) home to their families. I am so proud of my students for their compassion, initiative, loyalty, optimism, perseverance, & respect!!
The SHS Art Club was asked by Keri's Cuts to paint Valentine's Day advertisements.
The Renaissance Festival Field Trip!!!
The SHS Art Club's Relay for Life Team did an excellent job fundraising, especially since we started late. We had actually raised over $1,200!! The team members & myself had a little wager going. If they reached our fundraising goal of $1,000, they would get to dye my hair purple (color for Relay). Well, as shown here, the top two fundraisers got to dye my hair since we went over our goal.
